WE RAN A KICKSTARTER

These 30 days were the craziest to date. We were honored to be selected as a Staff Pick on Kickstarter, attended 4 Maker Faires, and unlocking 3 Kickstarter Stretch Goals.  We finished our Kickstarter campaign with 529 backers, $87,000, and 3 additional connector designs to make.  Within the next 6 months we quit our jobs and were off to developing Maker Pipe full time.  A huge thank you to our supporters both then and now!

Maker Pipe

Maker Pipe started with a husband and wife’s search for finding strong, convenient, and affordable ways to build furniture and other things for home use. There are a number of systems out there but none seem to let you check all the boxes. Having experience in manufacturing gave us the chance to be exposed to customization building systems but the material costs and sizes where not feasible for home use. So, we decided to make my own.. Being makers at heart this was an exciting challenge. We started with our standard T Connector. Once the design was perfected we decided to test the waters and see what others thought about the idea and what uses they might have. Pairing the connectors with inexpensive electrical conduit was key as you can transport it, find it easily, and it’s a reusable affordable material.
We got a great response so in 2015 we launched our first Kickstarter. The first Kickstarter was a bust. However it did make us see that people were interested. There was a great response but just no enough to meet our goal. So, we decided to take another look at the cost of production and how we could make this idea come alive. We decided that we were going to create the manufacturing dies ourselves. We studied up and it was time for a second round of Kickstarter in 2016. This time around we took a different approach with a lower goal and outside the box building ideas that got us funded in 6 HOURS! The backers kept coming and coming and number of connectors needing to be made kept growing.

We haven’t looked back since. There are so many different connector and accessory ideas we have in the works. There is also the goal of offering the connector line once complete for different size pipe. Once you get the entrepreneur bug you just keep going. We look forward to the future and sharing all the amazing builds this community creates.

Dave

Dave is the idea man behind Maker Pipe.  His professional background is in lean manufacturing and plant management.  You can usually find him in the shop perfecting our production on a daily basis.  When he is not in the trenches he is working on product development. Kelly

Kelly, who is also known as “the glue” keeps us moving.  Her professional background has been in hospitality sales.  She is the smile behind our customer service and sales efforts.  Manufacturing has been a new adventure for her, but she has learned the ropes fast.  The best way to reach Kelly is Kelly@makerpipe.com.  Kelly’s favorite Maker Pipe build to date is the retail store build by handMade Montana.  The display designs came out AMAZING and kids clothes are always the most fun to shop for!
